  2. Jan 01,  · This is a transitional album in Gil's ouvre. The title track (which translates as "refarmulating") is among his best work. But a lot of this is actually kind of bland pop; it bears comparison with Stevie Wonder, I suppose, but Gil during this period was turning himself into what he thought was a universal pop artist, and in doing so robbed his work of a lot of the particular magic 4/5(4).

  6. More of a mainstream album than a general Gil album, and a bit worse for it, Refazenda turns down Gilberto Gil's intensity and whimsicality and trades it in for more sober, though ever-smart, pop sensibilities. If you've not yet been converted to the gospel of Gil, stay away!

Though "Pai e Mãe" and a few other tracks are slightly reminiscent of the Gil e Jorge LP, Gil reasserts himself here as the pop star whom all of Brazil had expected him to be.
