  5. I let Hopkins guitar playing and Texas-blues voice swim through me. Everyone has a starting point. I heard a few things about Lightnin' Hopkins and I believed all of it. I heard someone found Lightnin' Hopkins poor, forgotten, and hungry. I hard this record was made in a hotel room with a big old reel-to-reel tape recorder.5/5(3).
  6. This album is a little odd, in that each side begins with a track recorded at a different time with a full band, which sounds very old and scratchy, but the remaining tracks on each side are acoustic tracks, seemingly from one session and sound awesome. This is 5/5(3).

  8. Back in I was listening to pop like Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell and one day my sister Anne hands me an album and says, more or less, "you should listen to this. you might like it." It was Lightnin, came out on Folkways, and it had been recorded by Sam Charters in Lightnin's rooming house, in the kitchen on January 15, /5(20).
